One format covers more cases

WebP supports lossy and lossless encoding, plus alpha transparency. It can therefore handle photos, illustrations, and transparent product cutouts, although a carefully optimized PNG may still suit some graphics.

Strong browser support

Current mainstream browsers support WebP, making it a practical default for many websites. Compatibility may still matter in older software, print workflows, or third-party systems. Keep original files and convert delivery copies for their intended destination.
