A ZIP keeps a batch together
Browsers may prompt for every individual file or scatter downloads among unrelated items. A ZIP preserves the collection as one unit and makes it easier to move, share, or store.
Compression inside the ZIP is secondary
JPG and WebP data is already compressed, so ZIP packaging may not shrink it much further. The main benefit is convenience, filenames, and a predictable transfer. The image compression happens before packaging.
Verify before publishing
Extract the archive, count the files, open several outputs, and compare their names and dimensions with the source list. Keep the ZIP until the assets are safely placed. If settings change, generate a fresh batch before downloading again.
